Wire Transfers Transition to ISO 20022
Wire Transfers Transitioning to ISO 20022 on July 14, 2025

Beginning July 14, 2025, all wire transfers will follow a new industry-standard payment messaging format. This change is being implemented nationwide by the Federal Reserve to improve processing speed, enhance security, and provide greater detail in wire payment information.

Most notably, wire instructions will look different starting July 14. The way payment details are presented will change, and you will notice new or updated fields when sending or receiving wires.

What is ISO 20022?
ISO 20022 is an international standard for financial messaging that is being adopted by banks across the U.S. It allows for more detailed and structured payment information, which improves processing efficiency, reduces manual errors, and enhances fraud detection. By creating a consistent framework for how payment data is shared, ISO 20022 strengthens security and transparency across financial institutions.
